Pelita = Light Desa = Village

Our main purpose is to be just as our name says; to be a Light to the Village.

Our background starts in 1981. Bill and Barbara Myers were planning to leave Indonesia and return to their home in America. But God revealed to them the enormous potential of using video to reach the lost of Indonesia with the hope of the Gospel. It started small. A home video camera and a VCR were used to produce videos. Christian friends would ask to borrow copies to watch. They told their friends who would ask to borrow copies. This went on until we now have a lending library with tapes that go all across the country.

Studio We began receiving requests from many villages to provide TVs and VCRs. That is when God first gave Bill the plan for Video Masuk Desa (Tel-A-Village).

Studio Pelita Desa's part in VMD is to provide the programming that goes out to the villages. To do this the Lord has provided us with a studio facility just outside of Jakarta. Instead of the home video camera and a VCR, we now have several professional cameras, VCRs, and other types of equipment to produce quality Christian programming.

In this studio facility we are able to produce a wide variety of programs. They range from music and children's programs like Rajawali Cilik to talk shows and teaching programs. KKR Medan The Lord has provided us with talented people to do these shows; not only in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes.

The Lord has also provided us with the ability to shoot on location. We have special lights that we use exclusively for location shooting. And the Lord has recently blessed us with new poles to support those lights. We have been in a wide variety of locations from small churches to big coliseums like Stadium Utama, Senayan in Jakarta.

Racil Set Pelita Desa is a nonprofit ministry. It operates through the support from donations. We do charge a fee for services we perform. But in most cases the fee is to offset the cost of the service. In some cases the fee is not enough to even offset the cost. But we have found that the Lord always provides. In 1996 we were in need of a new children's set. But the normal cost for what the Producer, Director, and Host wanted would have been extremely high. The crew prayed and waited for the Lord to act. Within a month or two, He sent the Cardwells from Australia to provide the new set for only the cost of some paint.
